How (Not) to Read the Bible Study: Prelude
“You can be a thinking intelligent Christian and one hundred percent believe in the trustworthiness and inspiration of the Bible.” – Dan Kimball
Family Night begins at 6:00 pm with dinner and fellowship. After dinner, the kids are dismissed to our fellowship hall to enjoy kids church with screened volunteers. The rest of the group will then spend some time in prayer and Bible Study. We would love for you to join us!

The apostle Paul didn’t plan to go to Galatia. God used a physical ailment to direct him there, carrying the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The relationship Paul would build with the Galatian converts―and his determination for the truth of the gospel to be preserved among them―led to one of the most passionate letters in the New Testament. Paul would not sit quietly by and let those who’d been liberated by Christ’s glorious gospel submit again to a yoke of slavery. He’d send a letter with the volume turned up, calling believers to stand firm in the truth, stay bold in love, and walk by the Spirit. He’d remind them what it looked like to live for God’s approval rather than human approval. The eternal words God entrusted to Paul for the churches of Galatia are as needed today as they were when the ink was still wet on the ancient pages.
Join Beth and Melissa Moore for a six-week deep dive into Paul’s captivating letter to the Galatians. Come to know the letter’s original recipients. Study its original context and embrace its timeless relevance. Discover―or perhaps rediscover―what makes the gospel of Jesus Christ revolutionary to those who choose to believe. Find out how everything has changed, now that faith has come.

It is not uncommon for those who read the Bible to claim a sentence or two as their “life verse”–one that gives their life purpose, direction, or meaning. Yet, the Bible has much more to say about life than just the sentences that we post on our walls and our social media. It invites us to a perspective that exceeds the boundaries set by our ego and interests.
During this 8-week small group devotional, we will explore various ways life is discussed throughout the Old and New Testaments. We will explore the implications of those ideas on our understanding of what it means to live and to be alive. We will consider how this shapes our perspective, our words, and our actions concerning the world around us.
New Hope Community Church in Santa Cruz, CA will be reading and discussing this book together during our Thursday Family Nights.

Have you ever read something in the Bible and thought, “Wait! What!?!”
Whether we embrace the Bible as a sacred text or are skeptical and suspicious of its benefit and inspiration, we have likely had to deal with stories and claims that we’re not sure how to deal with. In the book, How (Not) to Read the Bible, author Dan Kimball attempts to provide tools and techniques for engaging with these difficult texts. We expect that reading this book will be informative and encouraging for many.

As Pastor Dan Kimball closed out the book this study is based on, he described his desires for us a reader. One key desire is that whether or not we agree with his conclusions about the difficult subjects we would not throw the Bible aside too quickly.
Have a question? Do you have a prayer request? Need help or guidance? Whatever you need, we are here to listen.
We would love to hear from you!
